Why is AlphaSlim different from other programs?
AlphaSlim is a three-phase weight loss program that can help you to lose weight, keep it off and stay healthy. The shake is just one component of the program. The meal plans have been designed to promote initial weight loss and also for ongoing good health.
The AlphaSlim Weight Loss Program also provides weekly consultations in the pharmacy with an AlphaSlim Program Partner there to support you every step of the way.

How does the AlphaSlim Weight Loss Program work?

Six key principles are factored into the AlphaSlim program to help you lose weight:

  • A reduced kilojoule intake and exercise
  • The right ratio of protein, carbohydrates and fats
  • The right type of carbohydrates
  • Portion control
  • Eating five meals a day
  • Eating non-processed foods

The AlphaSlim shakes have been formulated to deliver the right proportion of macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats), which promote weight loss and at the same time support your health and wellbeing with an extensive range of vitamins and minerals.

How do the AlphaSlim meal plans differ?

AlphaSlim has included all the food groups when putting together the meal plans (unlike some other programs, carbohydrates have been included). It is important for you to eat from all the food groups, as this will make adherence to the program easier and encourages sensible food choices from all the food groups in the future. However, it is important to make the right choices when it comes to the type of food and the portion size you eat.

How much weight will I lose?

First, be realistic about your weight loss. It is not healthy or sustainable to lose too much weight too quickly. Each person’s weight loss journey will be different and dependent on many factors such as age, sex and starting weight. Anywhere from 500g up to 1.5kg is a reasonable amount to expect to lose in a week. Each week will be different though, so don’t forget to focus on your end goal weight.

How much does AlphaSlim cost?

The cost of each sachet works out to around $3.20 (based on RRP), which means you are eating breakfast and lunch for just $6.40 a day – less than the cost of a cup of coffee and a muffin.

Is AlphaSlim available to everyone?

Most people can participate in the AlphaSlim Pharmacy Weight Loss Program. However, you should consider your particular health situation and requirements before commencing the program’. If you suffer from an eating disorder or have a BMI in the ’underweight’ category a weight loss program such as AlphaSlim is not recommended. If you are under the age of 16 or are pregnant or breastfeeding you may be able to participate with a letter from your doctor. If you have any conditions requiring medical checks or medication, or if you are unsure whether a restricted diet is appropriate for you, you will need to see your doctor for advice on whether the program Is suited to you. These conditions include, but are not limited to, a kidney disorder or kidney function issues, diabetes, coeliac disease, heart disease, liver problems or thyroid problems. What do I mix the shake with?
Simply add 200ml of cold water to your shaker provided in your Starter Kit before emptying in the sachet contents. Once you replace the lid, shake vigorously and your delicious and nutritious shake is ready to drink!

There is no dairy on this program and I’m concerned I won’t be getting enough calcium

The recommended daily intake of calcium is around 1,000mg a day depending on your life stage.  Whilst it is true that a great source of calcium comes from dairy it is also possible to gain it from other sources.  The AlphaSlim shakes provide most of the daily requirement of calcium and, providing you eat from the approved foods list, especially the vegetables you should receive more than enough calcium in your diet.
If you suffer from calcium deficiency or are at risk of osteoporosis, please consult your doctor before starting the AlphaSlim program as you may require additional supplementation.

Will I feel hungry?
The AlphaSlim shakes have been designed to keep you feeling satisfied until your next meal break. If you are still hungry, by all means eat from the list of recommended vegetables or sip from the vegetable soup recipe included in the handbook or recipe section on the website.

Will I get a headache or feel faint on the program?
These symptoms can be common if you are experiencing withdrawal from caffeine or if you are used to eating a diet high in processed foods. These symptoms should not continue for longer than two days. Drinking two litres of water per day may help to alleviate these symptoms. Make sure you don’t miss any meals, including the morning and afternoon snacks. You can also snack from the vegetable list or sip some of the vegetable soup recipe included in your Program Handbook.

Can I have foods that aren’t on the list?

Absolutely. The lists included in the handbook are by no means definitive and are there more as a guide than a complete list, but make sure you don’t eat from the lists of foods to avoid.  For example, if a fruit such as mandarin is not on the list, but not included in the ’foods to avoid’ then by all means you can choose to eat this.

Can I drink alcohol?

Alcohol is full of empty kilojoules. You should definitely stay clear of alcohol in Phase 1 of the program. In Phase 2 you can consider introducing a glass of wine or beer into your day off, but don’t forget this will impact on your weight loss. Alcohol also stimulates your appetite which will encourage you to eat more so closely monitor the effect of consuming alcohol on your weight loss.

What if I don’t lose weight one week?

This can be due to many factors, including not sticking to the plan. Make sure you attend your weekly consultation with your AlphaSlim Program Partner so they can assess you on an individual basis. Your program may need some minor adjustments due to your changing metabolism. Also remember not to skip meals. Many people think they are speeding up their weight loss progress by skipping meals, but you will not get weight loss results by starving your body. Make sure you maintain the protein intake in your diet to maintain this loss.

What happens after I have lost the weight?
Once you have reached your goal weight, you should not put it back on unless you revert to your former eating habits. Due to the high protein in the diet, your lean muscle mass has been preserved or losses minimised, therefore it is unlikely your metabolism has slowed down greatly. The AlphaSlim program encourages a low glycemic way of eating and the maintenance program is based on a continued emphasis on protein at each meal, and low glycemic carbohydrate intake.  One of the ways you can easily maintain your weight is to always have one of the meal replacement shakes daily.

Do the AlphaSlim shakes contain gluten or lactose?
The shakes contain gluten and lactose. They are not recommended if you are wheat intolerant or have Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) due to the very specific eating plans tailored to manage these conditions.

I have never exercised before. What should I start with?

First of all visit you doctor for medical clearance. Then begin walking, perhaps just 10 minutes per day, and complete some light stretches. As you get fitter you can increase the time each week.

I have a sore knee and have been running for my fitness. How can l maintain my fitness levels without hurting my knee?

Try swimming which takes some pressure off your joints or running in deep water.

Do I need to exercise on the AlphaSlim Program?

To assist in weight loss and increase your fitness, strength and flexibility, as well as provide a sense of wellbeing, we strongly recommend that you incorporate exercise into your daily life.

What is the best time of the day to exercise?
The best time to work out is when you want to so it doesn’t become a chore and is an enjoyable part of your day.

Can I lose fat from specific areas of my body I don’t like?

Unfortunately, you can’t lose fat from just one section of your body - you will lose it from all over. However you can ‘spot’ train to tone up any area that needs work.

I have arthritis so am I limited to what exercise I can manage?

As mentioned before, swimming takes some of the pressure off your joints so it would be an ideal way get exercise into your day. If you don’t have access to a pool, consider attempting a walk later in the day when your joints have had an opportunity to loosen up.
