Eating a well balanced and nutritious diet is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The AlphaSlim Program focuses on six key criteria to help you lose weight:

1. A reduced kilojoule intake and exercise
Energy in must equal energy out, or if you are aiming to lose weight, energy in must be less than energy out.

2. The right ratio of protein, carbohydrates and fats
Protein helps you to lose fat rather than muscle mass. Our bodies also use three times the energy to breakdown protein than fat or carbohydrate, which increases your metabolism and burns more kilojoules. We still need carbohydrates and fats in our diet, but the key is to eat the right types of these foods in appropriate portions and ratios.

3. The right type of carbohydrates
The AlphaSlim Program encourages you to eat carbohydrates that take the body time to digest and absorb, in other words, foods that have a low Glycaemic Index, or GI.

4. Portion control
Eating excessive portions is a significant contribution to weight gain. The AlphaSlim Program meal plans have been designed to deliver the right amount of kilojoules so you can lose weight.

5. Eating five meals a day
The AlphaSlim Program has been designed with a low kJ intake, but it has also been designed in a way that will prevent your body going into a starvation mode. By eating five or more smaller meals per day you will ensure that you supply your body with the nutrients necessary to build muscle and burn fat.

6. Eating non-processed foods
Processed foods are often very high in kJ and they may also contain preservatives, additives, colourings and flavourings and a high level of saturated fat or trans-fatty acids.

  People who eat breakfast are more likely to maintain a normal weight than those who skip it. This may be because you tend to make unwise food choices later in the day and eat more than you would have had you eaten breakfast. But more importantly, you need to fuel your body first thing in the morning to kick start your metabolism. If you don’t your body will shut down and go into ‘starvation mode’.   Eat slowly. It is very easy to overeat before you realise you are full. So put the brakes on, chew your food thoroughly and enjoy each mouthful. This way you will realise when you are full before you overeat.
